Why Offer External Violence Management Training?
- Prevent conflict escalation: the first signs of aggression must be addressed early to stop situations from escalating. This training equips participants with effective tools to defuse conflict before it intensifies.
- Improve the work environment: a healthy work climate is essential for employee well-being and performance. Knowing how to de-escalate tension helps foster a professional, respectful environment where all team members feel safe and valued.
- Enhance your organisation's reputation: many factors influence your organisation’s image, and how your teams handle difficult interactions is one of the most visible. By responding to conflict with professionalism and respect, you strengthen client confidence and reinforce your reputation.
- Reduce turnover and absenteeism: unaddressed external violence is a major source of workplace stress, contributing to higher absenteeism and turnover rates. By training your teams to manage these situations, you give them tools to reduce stress and minimise long-term impact.
- Build valuable personal skills: managing external violence also strengthens key interpersonal skills such as resilience, patience, and empathy. These are valuable both in the workplace and in everyday life.
External violence management training delivers measurable benefits: enhancing team performance, protecting employee well-being, and reinforcing your organisation’s image.
Learning Objectives of our External Violence Management Training
Our training is built around five essential learning goals:
- Identifying problematic behaviours and knowing how to address them: participants learn to recognise and understand the behaviours that constitute external violence. Uncivil remarks, disrespectful attitudes, and aggressive conduct are all early warning signs that must be addressed before conflict escalates. Employees are also trained to assess the context and motivations behind these actions so they can respond effectively and appropriately.
- Knowing how to respond and when to raise the alarm: the training provides practical techniques for responding to external violence constructively. Your employees will learn how to stay calm under pressure, use communication strategies to de-escalate conflict, and recognise when it's necessary to alert authorities or the designated contacts within your organisation.
- Preventing health hazards linked to external violence: third-party violence is a major psychosocial risk and can lead to serious mental health problems, such as chronic stress or anxiety. This module helps participants build a solid understanding of these risks and equips them with prevention strategies to safeguard their own well-being and that of their colleagues.
- Knowing where to turn for support: your teams will know who to contact when facing or witnessing external violence, whether it’s internal support (such as HR, security, or a designated responder) or external resources. Knowing how to request help is essential for effective and timely intervention.
A Three-Phase Learning Process
Phase 1: Immersion Module
The training begins with a powerful virtual reality immersion. Learners step into the shoes of Naïma and Erwan, two bank employees facing different forms of external violence. This experience fosters a deeper understanding of how external violence affects not only the individuals targeted but also the overall work climate. Learners become emotionally engaged with the experience, gaining unique insight into what it feels like to be confronted with aggression, building both empathy and awareness in the process.
Phase 2: Educational Module
While still in VR, learners are guided through a step-by-step breakdown of what they’ve just experienced. Drawing from the situations they witnessed, participants learn how to identify the first warning signs of external violence, understand its underlying dynamics, and apply effective de-escalation strategies. We offer three tailored versions of this module (one for managers, one for current employees, and one for new hires), ensuring maximum relevance and impact for your organisation. This module also includes anonymous quizzes to assess knowledge retention and provide valuable insights into your company’s conflict management culture.
Phase 3: Debrief & Group Discussion
Finally, learners are invited to join a facilitated group discussion, if they wish. This space encourages participants to share their impressions, ask questions, and reflect on the situations they encountered and the strategies they learnt. It’s a key moment to deepen knowledge, clarify uncertainties, and adapt the learning to your organisation’s specific context. Opening this dialogue helps build team cohesion and contributes to a supportive workplace culture grounded in mutual respect and well-being.
