Gender-Based & Sexual Violence Awareness on Campus

Build Awareness of Consent and Gender-Based Violence on Campus

At Reverto, we believe that educational environments have the power to shape safe, respectful, and caring communities. That’s why we designed a VR solution with two key goals: to raise awareness about consent and equip students with practical tools to combat gender-based and sexual violence.

Why Offer Gender-Based & Sexual Violence Awareness Training to College Students?

Offering this training to college students is essential because it helps:

In short, awareness is an essential and proactive way to educate, prevent, and foster a safer, more respectful environment for your students.

Key Learning Objectives of Our Gender-Based and Sexual Violence Programme

Our training program was designed to deliver five key learning outcomes:

  1. Recognising the forms of gender-based and sexual violence : gender-based and sexual violence can manifest in a wide variety of ways. Our training empowers students to identify and recognise violence in all its forms.
  2. Knowing the definition of consent: consent is central to preventing gender-based and sexual violence. Students will gain a clear and thorough understanding of what consent is, how it’s given, and why it matters.
  3. Knowing how to respond: students learn practical tools to react appropriately. It includes intervention strategies, support means, and knowledge of the procedures to follow.
  4. Understanding legal and institutional implications: educating students on the legal consequences of gender-based and sexual violence is key to prevention. Our training helps students grasp the seriousness of these acts by clearly explaining their legal consequences.
  5. Knowing who to turn to: whether they are a witness or a target, students will know where to find support. We inform them about the resources available on campus and in the broader community to ensure their safety and well-being.

A Three-Phase Learning Experience

Phase 1: Immersion Module

The session begins with an immersive VR experience. Learners step into the shoes of Lea, a student facing multiple forms of gender-based and sexual violence on campus. Based on firsthand accounts, this module lets learners feel what targets experience. By engaging with the emotional impact of such violence, learners develop a deeper, more personal understanding of its effects.

Next, students are guided through a step-by-step breakdown of the experience. They explore the different types of violence, the notion of consent, and how to respond appropriately. Anonymous quizzes give learners the space to answer honestly, without feeling exposed. These responses help assess what participants know before and after the session and can also serve as a barometer of gender-based and sexual violence within your institution.

Finally, learners are invited to take part in a facilitated group discussion, if they wish to. In this safe, supportive space, they can share how they feel, ask questions, and explore real-life solutions. This critical step is the opportunity to consolidate learning, address uncertainties, and tailor learning to the specific needs of each group.

What Our VR Awareness Training Brings to the Table

Multi-Sensory Immersion

Our scenario-based VR experiences place participants at the heart of realistic situations where they both witness and experience gender-based and sexual violence firsthand, in a safe, controlled setting. Stepping into someone else’s shoes fosters empathy and deeper understanding, making the learning experience more memorable and impactful. By combining cognitive science with high-quality audio and filmmaking, we create emotionally powerful sessions that leave a lasting impression.

Each session lasts just 20 minutes, making it easy to fit into students’ schedules. This short format allows institutions to reach more students without disrupting their day. Unlike traditional training, our VR modules require minimal space and resources, making them quick to set up and easy to roll out on any campus.

Every module we deliver is evaluated for impact. In 2023 alone, 1,996 students took part in our Gender-Based and Sexual Violence Training:

  • Before the experience, only 22.1% of students knew the legal consequences of gender-based and sexual violence. After the experience, 94.6% understood the legal repercussions.
  • Before the experience, only 32.4% knew how to respond appropriately. After the experience, 95.7% knew how to take action.
  • Before the experience, only 35.7% could identify the different forms of this violence. After the experience, 97.0% could recognise all major forms of gender-based and sexual violence.

These results show what's possible. By equipping your students with knowledge and tools, you help create a safer, healthier, and more respectful culture across your institution.
